Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts belongs to four generations of the Robertses that reside in the Atlanta region beginning from her maternal grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. In the early years, her father became interested in theater. While attending Emory University in 1952 he acted in productions on campus and in Atlanta. While in Biloxi in Mississippi, he was played as a soldier in the play of Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter as well as his spouse left the Air Force in 1957, at which time they were enrolled Walter to Tulane University. In 1960 the family moved from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964, Walter together with Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show titled Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded themselves. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou founded their own organization called the Actors and Writers Workshop. The program ran for 6 years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
